Midwifery-led and Community-focused

Picture

Our Vision

For Wellington to have a culture of dignity and respect
for those birthing, their babies and their
whānau

Our Mission

To lead the way to joyful births and positive parenting by
enabling the choice of place of birth, education
and fantastic community support within Wellington

What is
Birth Hub?

Birth Hub is a group of those who are pregnant, parents, childbirth educators, midwives and other health therapists and professionals and their whānau in the Wellington region who want a midwifery-led Birth Centre in Wellington with a focus on community.

We want:
  • Women to have a CHOICE of where to birth their baby in the Wellington region and offer an alternative to home birth and hospital birth
  • Midwifery to be at the heart of the care of pregnant and birthing whānau
  • Normal, physiological birth to be promoted by recognising, respecting and safeguarding normal birth processes
  • Medical interventions to be kept to a minimum and only used to support labour and birth when complications arise
  • To reduce the fear around pregnancy, labour and birth through EDUCATION
  • A relaxed and family-centred environment with individualised care with a strong emphasis on skilled, sensitive and respectful midwifery care
  • Families to experience a positive start to parenthood with support from the Birth Centre COMMUNITY

We want those who are pregnant to be supported to TRUST that:
  • their bodies are designed to nurture and grow a baby
  • they can birth their babies through their own efforts
  • that they know from within how to mother and nurture their babies

We also believe that Wellington not only wants this kind of Birth Centre it needs this kind of Birth Centre because it will bring about:
  • significant cost savings to the DHB as intervention and caesarean rates decrease due to the promotion of physiological birth for healthy pregnant people
  • increased satisfaction rates of whanau as social and cultural needs can more easily be met outside of the hospital model
  • increased morale and satisfaction rates for midwives working within a model of care that enables them to practice midwifery that promotes physiological birthing
